The New York Times International Weekly dated June 11 carried in Arts & Design an article with a headline: Museum Celebrates American Writers.

It reports from Chicago about the new American Writers Museum, which opened in May. Andrew Onway, its lead designer said, "We want people who come here to have different kinds of experience around literature.

Instead of manuscripts and first editions, there are interactive touch screens and high-tech multimedia installations. The museum was created with nearly $10 million in privately raised money. It is the brainchild of Malcolm O'Hagan. He visited the Dublin Writers Museum in Ireland and wondered why there was nothing similar in the United States.

"We aren't saying this is an encyclopedia place," Mr. Anway said. "It will change."
