Asahi Weekly dated on April 20 carried an Essay titled: Osaka is the Mediterranean, Okinawa the Caribbean.
Anisa Dar writes some differences of characters depending on regions. For example, according to her observation, people in Okinawa are much more expressive, jokey and direct. And they tend to make physical contact more often. The temperature is a little warmer, "so it reminds me of the Mediterranean," she points out.
On the other hand, she writes that people in Okinawa has a distinct Caribbean element, with a toned-down Japanese vibe. Like the Caribbeans, the Okinawans have relaxed and friendly attitudes towards everyone.
